Roger Carpenter

Head Instructor

Brief info

Roger Carpenter, a native of Southern California, embarked on his journey into the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on February 8th, 2009, under the guidance of Professor Adam Figurski at Gracie Barra. His dedication and commitment to the art were recognized when he achieved the rank of blue belt on March 24, 2011.

Following his mentor, Adam Figurski, Roger ventured out of Gracie Barra and co-founded Gracie Humaita Hemet. Under this new banner, he continued to hone his skills and achieved the esteemed purple belt on January 31, 2013.

Life's twists led Roger to Prescott, Arizona, where he continued his training under the tutelage of Steve Judson at Gustavo Dantes Jiu Jitsu. Despite the change in location, Roger remained steadfast in his pursuit of mastery.

In April of 2016, Roger's journey brought him back to California, where he found a new home at Gracie Humaita, now under the guidance of Omar Salum. Here, his dedication and perseverance were acknowledged once more as he ascended to the esteemed rank of brown belt on August 11, 2018, and finally achieved the pinnacle of his journey with the black belt on September 8, 2020.

In pursuit of his own legacy in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Roger made the difficult decision to depart from Gracie Humaita in November of 2021. His quest for growth and further learning led him to Miami, Florida, where he sought the mentorship of Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu in April 2022. This pivotal encounter led to his affiliation with Fight Sports Club, marking a new chapter in his martial arts journey.

Roger Carpenter dedicated two and a half years to refining his skills under the Fight Sports Club banner, proudly representing the team in both local and national competitions. His pursuit of further growth led him to seek out a local mentor, and from this search, his relationship with Combat Base began to flourish. As of September 2024, Roger was officially welcomed into the Combat Base family, now under the mentorship of Chris Haeuter, a legend in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community and one of the first Americans to earn a black belt in the art.

Roger sought mentorship from Combat Base not only for the local support it offered him but also for the benefit of his students. This relationship allows Roger to bring Chris Haueter in for seminars, tap into his extensive knowledge, and access a strong network of sister schools and experienced black belts within the organization—all while maintaining his own identity and independence as RCAJJ.

Roger continues to be an active participant in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community, not only as a competitor but as a mentor and coach to his students. His dedication to nurturing the next generation of BJJ fighters stands as a testament to his passion and commitment to the art.

Roger is the head instructor of RCAJJ. He currently holds the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt.

Where do I begin? For a long time I have been looking for a school where I can not only improve in my BJJ journey, but also a place where I can bring my daughter. Most schools do not provide the interpersonal relationships, and have often treated their students like a return on profit. This school is the complete opposite! Great facility, great professors, and a family atmosphere. They treat my daughter like she is family and work with her to be a stronger person both internally and externally. Here you are family. Best investment I have made!

AC facility. Lots of mat space and a drink fridge in case you forgot your water bottle. Great group of people to train with. Professors here are top notch black belts and they treat my kids as if they were their own. I just started training 6 months ago and the energy here keeps me coming back. Signing up has been the best investment I’ve made for myself in a very long time. Highly recommend checking this place out.

FSH is an outstanding school. My son joined September 2022, now my daughter is joining. Fight Sports is more than a school, it’s become our second home and the team is our family! If you’re looking for a life long skill, this the place to learn it.
